My Keyboards Friend Is A Blind Mouse

How does he do it? Is it stunning intellect? Do they have access to the old technology blue prints (maybe reams of digital vellum) that were left here by the futuristic forms of life that visited us in the past.

Or is he just a simple guy, who likes simple things with time to dream and think of ways to make every day products easier to use?

Forget about the hundreds of millions of dollars he has access to for the sake of R&D, advertising and PROPER marketing.

Trust me. It's no accident that this product is working! Really, version 1.0 is excellent.

I've had two experiences with technology that left me thinking: "hmm. that makes perfect sense".

One is the Segway. Although it took about thirty to forty minutes to catch on, riding the Segway was a snap. The only reason it took so long is because I had to unlearn everything my mother taught me about walking and running since I was five. Once I let go and "trusted" the technology, I was on my way.

Using gyroscopes which have been in use since the early 19th century one can hop on a Segway and find that it quickly and intuitively replaces the need to walk. The slightest thought of motion makes the Segway react accordingly.

Number two is the iPhone. Using the iPhone employees the same mind numbing ease. (We'll discuss the network issues at a later date)

The easiest thing to do is point. You can point from across the room get me another pint while making the gestures of a hand holding a beer and then holding up your index finger indicating one more.

"Stop pointing that's rude". "Don't point, they'll see you" or "Just point me in the right direction". We've all heard those before. Well, point away.

The ease in which this phone operates is as easy as pressing your well manicured finger to the glass. Press, pinch, drag, and swipe will be forever linked to the next generation of mobile phone lexicon.

A mouse and keyboard, remote control for the television, VCR, DVD, the iPod scroll wheel, the list goes on and on. All of these devices have simplified the process of controlling complicated hardware and software.

It appears as if we're back at the beginning. It's a phone. Feel free to use your fingers.
